Zell am See-Kaprun
Your holiday destination in Pinzgau
Kaprun is a picturesque village with 3,000 residents, nestled amid the famous Hohe Tauern mountains. Surrounded by the region’s magical mountain scenery, it lies right at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. Not without reason is this town in the Pinzgau district, renowned for its especially healthful climate, a popular vacation destination for guests from all corners of the globe.
Wonderful Nature and Sporting Opportunities
Not just the wonderful natural setting, but also the many opportunities for summer and winter sports appeal to our visitors. The Kaprun-Zell am See region also boasts exciting and educational excursion destinations.
Kaprun – the gate to the Kitzsteinhorn
Kaprun in Pinzgau: If you are looking for snow well before winter starts, enter the glacier slopes of the Kitzsteinhorn. Thanks to the direct lift connection from the village of Kaprun to the top, you don’t even have to change from one cable car to another on your way to piste bliss. Frolicking in the snow in late spring or autumn, where else can you do that – in the Salzburger Land, definitely here, in the province’s only glacier ski area. You will also find a year-round excursion destination at the top station of the Kitzsteinhorn cable car, the Gipfelwelt 3000. In this visitor centre, you can wander through the National Park Gallery and study the history of the glacier, its geology and the high alpine flora and fauna. On the panorama platform, you can take the obligatory summit photo – send greetings from your holiday to those at home!
Other great excursion destinations in Kaprun are the historic Kaprun Castle, the all-year-round toboggan run Maisi Flitzer on the Maiskogel and the Sigmund Thun gorge, which can also be discovered magically illuminated in the evening during various events in summer. You can see a unique piece of engineering above Kaprun: the Kaprun high-alpine reservoirs (Hochgebirgsstauseen). Bordered by a 107-metre-high and almost 500-metre-long dam, they invite you to walk, hike and enjoy the surroundings.
Zell am See – between Schmittenhöhe and the blue lake
Below, the picturesque Zeller See, above, the Schmittenhöhe, also known simply as Schmitten: These two scenic regions frame the holiday resort of Zell am See. The Schmittenhöhe is the number one destination for anyone longing for mountains and views. In winter, skiers let themselves be carried by the mountain railways to the most beautiful slopes - 5 long valley runs included. The Trass downhill run, a snow park, and a Funslope XXL are just suitable for those looking for speed and adrenaline. The most beautiful views also await winter hikers with several high-altitude trails during their holidays.
In summer, the nearby Zeller See becomes a hotspot for water sports enthusiasts of all kinds. Stand-up paddlers, surfers and sailors conquer the lake. Families are most happy about the bathing opportunities in the three lidos on the shores of Lake Zell. You can also traverse the water on a big passenger ship and enjoy the scenery.
And culture enthusiasts will be delighted: the city of Mozart, Salzburg, for example, lies barely three-quarters of an hour away. The romantic old town, its museums, its castles and parks, its restaurants and shopping opportunities... Salzburg is more than worth a journey.
